Whitney Rose: 20.5 Months Old

Dear Whitney,

You are 20 months old!

This month, you are saying even more new words, phrases, and now sentences!

"Oh no!  What ahpen?" --What happened?

"Baby, 'ere are you? Oh 'ere you are!"--where are you?  There you are!

You want everything served "in a cup" and with a "poon".

"All wet!"  "Rain"  "ower"--shower

"Show"--shovel

"ahkoom"--vacuum

"Co'd" and "ot-ot-ot" for cold and hot

"Macy"--music

"Kaka"--cookie/cracker

"Fish"--goldfish crackers

You've added 'mama', 'dada', 'gama' to the end of your "Peas!" and "Dee doo!" so that now it comes out as 'Thank you, Mama!'  When you say that, you can have whatever you want ;)  It is the sweetest sound!

You are learning to say "sorry".

You pick up on new words like "um".  Grandma said it a lot when she was taking care of you last week, and so you started saying it all the time.

You can put on your shoes by yourself.  You are really good about sitting down and taking them off as soon as you step in the house.  You like to put on Mommy and Daddy's shoes and try to walk around.  It is funny to watch you try to wear my high heels!  There is a pair of Stride Rite athletic shoes that I bought recently in a size bigger than you wear, and you love to put those on and wear them around the house :)

You like to give leg hugs.  You will hug one leg and then say, "and the other one?" and then you will hug the other leg.  Over and over!

You are really quite good at drinking out of a regular cup.  When playing at your water table, one of your favorite things to do is take a cup, dip it in the hose water and drink a ton.  Lately you've been asking to drink from our normal cups and you don't spill--until you shake the cup, forgetting momentarily that it isn't for play ;)  I'm pretty proud of you, though!

Your hair is getting really long in the back and finally, the sides are starting to grow.  You look so cute in pigtails and ponytails.

Your latest obsession is bubbles.  The other day, we were at the park and a girl was blowing bubbles toward you.  The next day, you began blowing your own bubbles.  You are absorbing knowledge like a sponge!  You say, "Oh!  Pop!  Pop!  Pop!" and "Bye, buz!"

You still love to go on the slides.  Huge, super tall ones don't intimidate you at all.  You can do them all on your own now without any trouble!  You have become so sturdy and sure-footed on the playground this month!

You have some new favorite books: Mr. Brown Can Moo, Can You?, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, the nursery rhyme books that have Baa Baa Black Sheep, and your Bibles.  You have that Dr. Seuss story practically memorized.  You love to find "Cah-cah", "Baa Baa" and "'esus" on the pages.

Besides reading, you love it when we sing songs to you.  It is cute to watch you do the hand signs for Row Row Row Your Boat and Itsy Bitsy Spider.  You like to clap for the missing letters of B-I-N-G-O.

One of the things that delights our hearts the most is that you eagerly pray with us.  You hold our hands and stay really still and quiet the whole time.  At the end, you say, "Ah-men!" enthusiastically and with a smile.  You are such a precious little child of God and we are thankful that from such an early age, your knowledge of God and your faith are forming.  In early June, you and Daddy are going to the Bible camp at church--the first of many years of "Blitz".  We can hardly wait!

My, how you are growing, Big Girl!  We love you SO MUCH!
